7 Steps to Learn New Things

  • 00:03:01 say i want to
  • 00:03:03 become a front-end web developer that's
  • 00:03:06 a lot more precise now
  • 00:03:08 but still you can of course find several
  • 00:03:10 steps that
  • 00:03:11 you need to become this front-end web
  • 00:03:13 developer for example you could say okay
  • 00:03:15 i need four steps
  • 00:03:16 i need html css javascript and then
  • 00:03:19 maybe angular react views felt whatever
  • 00:03:21 any kind of framework library just to
  • 00:03:23 name an example so you have these four
  • 00:03:25 steps to achieve your bigger goal of
  • 00:03:26 becoming a front-end web developer
  • 00:03:29 this is what always helps me because if
  • 00:03:30 i get started and say i want to learn
  • 00:03:32 something new
  • 00:03:33 then this is overwhelming but then if i
  • 00:03:34 become more precise and if i break it
  • 00:03:36 down into several steps
  • 00:03:38 things look a lot more easier and i have
  • 00:03:40 a concrete goal i can work on and this
  • 00:03:42 allows me to easily get started
  • 00:03:44 another thing i just learned is make
  • 00:03:46 sure that your battery is fully charged
  • 00:03:48 if you record yourself
  • 00:03:50 also something that you have to keep in
  • 00:03:51 mind however coming back to this
  • 00:03:53 overwhelming stuff we just talked about
  • 00:03:55 this brings me also to my next point i
  • 00:03:58 called it choose your resources
  • 00:04:00 wisely and stay focused because i think
  • 00:04:03 that we live in
  • 00:04:04 great times nowadays when it comes to
  • 00:04:06 learning new things
  • 00:04:08 we have so many resources available
  • 00:04:10 online and offline so be it books
  • 00:04:12 or bootcamps or any kind of
  • 00:04:16 workshops you could attend or of course
  • 00:04:18 also online resources like
  • 00:04:19 youtube videos articles courses on udemy
  • 00:04:23 for example
  • 00:04:24 you have plenty of resources available
  • 00:04:26 to exactly find
  • 00:04:27 your way of learning new things the
  • 00:04:29 problem here is that the more options
  • 00:04:31 you have
  • 00:04:32 the easier it is to get lost you can
  • 00:04:35 start hundreds of tutorials on one
  • 00:04:37 specific topic and watch this a bit and
  • 00:04:39 that a bit and read a book right here in
  • 00:04:41 an article right there
  • 00:04:42 and in the end you're just lost and you
  • 00:04:44 learned nothing this is something
  • 00:04:46 i found out that doesn't work for me i
  • 00:04:48 kind of like to learn with
  • 00:04:50 course for example but just some basics
  • 00:04:52 but then i like to dive deeper on my own
  • 00:04:54 so i like to work on new things if you
  • 00:04:56 work on something related to programming
  • 00:04:57 i like to create own projects
  • 00:04:59 and then specifically look for solutions
  • 00:05:01 for a problem i might have
  • 00:05:03 but just reading and watching videos and
  • 00:05:05 doing all that stuff
  • 00:05:07 doesn't help me at all so for me it's
  • 00:05:08 more important choose some selected
  • 00:05:10 resources
  • 00:05:11 dive into these but then stay focused on
  • 00:05:13 your goal which is
  • 00:05:15 learn the topic you are working on at
  • 00:05:17 the moment and not using as many
  • 00:05:19 resources as possible because in the end
  • 00:05:20 you will learn nothing that's just my
  • 00:05:22 experience
  • 00:05:23 talking about learning resources you of
  • 00:05:25 course
  • 00:05:26 also hear the thoughts or the opinions
  • 00:05:28 of other people
  • 00:05:29 and in my opinion it's important to
  • 00:05:31 listen to other people
  • 00:05:32 but it's also important not to listen to
  • 00:05:35 everybody
  • 00:05:36 there are people that know more than you
  • 00:05:39 that might be even smarter than you
  • 00:05:41 and that might have great advice for you
  • 00:05:44 these people might have made mistakes
  • 00:05:45 already
  • 00:05:46 and if they share their knowledge with
  • 00:05:48 you this brings you forward because you
  • 00:05:50 can avoid doing these mistakes
  • 00:05:52 and therefore progress faster for
  • 00:05:53 example at a catamined
  • 00:05:55 um max is the more experienced developer
  • 00:05:58 here no question about that so if i
  • 00:06:00 learn something new
  • 00:06:01 and i have a problem for example where
  • 00:06:03 i'm stuck where i'm not sure what is the
  • 00:06:04 right approach
  • 00:06:04 well of course ask max because he has
  • 00:08:51 here socializing makes a lot of sense
  • 00:08:53 but don't socialize
  • 00:08:55 and don't share all your things that you
  • 00:08:56 want to do and besides all these well
  • 00:08:59 harder facts related to learning i have
  • 00:09:01 two last points that i found out within
  • 00:09:03 the last two years
  • 00:09:04 which are really important the first one
  • 00:09:06 is don't overpower
  • 00:09:08 and take breaks because um we have a
  • 00:09:12 culture in the meanwhile which is more
  • 00:09:14 like work hard play hard you know
  • 00:09:16 everybody tells you how many hours he's
  • 00:09:18 working and in the end
  • 00:09:19 well even though the person's working a
  • 00:09:21 lot it's always about i
  • 00:09:23 work more hours than you do and so on
  • 00:09:25 and i think this is the wrong approach
  • 00:09:26 i think the approach is to have a goal
  • 00:09:29 to learn something new to help start a
  • 00:09:31 new hobby as i said
  • 00:09:32 to start a business to start anything
  • 00:09:34 you want to do
  • 00:09:35 and if you want to achieve something you
  • 00:09:37 probably will work a bit more than
  • 00:09:39 expected sometimes
  • 00:09:40 but the goal is not working many hours
  • 00:09:42 the goal is to
  • 00:09:44 do something and by doing something you
  • 00:09:46 kind of work a lot from time to time
  • 00:09:48 that's in my opinion normal and this can
  • 00:09:50 happen but
  • 00:09:51 overpowering not taking breaks not
  • 00:09:53 having weekends
  • 00:09:54 working 20 hours or 18 hours a day 100
  • 00:09:57 hours per week
  • 00:09:58 i'm not a big fan of that you can do
  • 00:10:00 this if you have to do it if you start
  • 00:10:02 your own business and to be honest we
  • 00:10:03 also had to work a lot in the last
  • 00:10:05 months and years and and we also keep
  • 00:10:07 working now because well
  • 00:10:08 it's it's fun also right that's the next
  • 00:10:10 thing if you build something you like
  • 00:10:11 you like to work and then the hours kind
  • 00:10:13 of come automatically
  • 00:10:14 but nevertheless we also take breaks we
  • 00:10:16 take weekends we take evenings off and
  • 00:10:18 go for dinner we have a social life
  • 00:10:19 stuff like that
  • 00:10:20 and i think this is really really
  • 00:10:21 important because um
  • 00:10:23 this brings me to my last point actually
  • 00:10:25 already live your life you know
  • 00:10:27 in the end it is your life we all want
  • 00:10:29 to progress we all want to achieve
  • 00:10:31 things we want to have a good life in
  • 00:10:32 the end
  • 00:10:33 but this doesn't mean that you have to
  • 00:10:35 live other people's
  • 00:10:36 lives or that you have to meet other
  • 00:10:38 people's expectations i think the
  • 00:10:40 greatest thing is that you
  • 00:10:41 live your life on your own that you do
  • 00:10:43 what you want i know we have some
  • 00:10:44 restrictions we need a job
  • 00:10:46 for example you need to earn money
  • 00:10:47 because you need to pay your bills you
  • 00:10:48 need a flat or something like that
  • 00:10:50 this is important but you can do this um
  • 00:10:53 without losing your own personality i
  • 00:10:56 would say
  • 00:10:57 so live your life stay who you are um
  • 00:10:59 keep learning and
  • 00:11:00 and just enjoy it in the end you know
  • 00:11:02 there will be hard times there will be
  • 00:11:04 good times that's totally normal but in
  • 00:11:06 the end it's all about
  • 00:11:07 making the best out of our lives we have
  • 00:11:10 and
  • 00:11:10 yeah with that i want to end this video
  • 00:11:13 actually as you see this is not some
  • 00:11:14 kind of professional approach i didn't
  • 00:11:16 read books about this topic
  • 00:11:18 uh these are just my thoughts that came
  • 00:11:20 to my mind right here
  • 00:11:21 so whenever you are learning something
  • 00:11:23 new whenever you're struggling and you
  • 00:11:24 have some doubts if you can do it um
  • 00:11:27 trust me
  • 00:11:28 according to my experience this is
  • 00:11:29 totally normal this happens to almost
  • 00:11:32 everybody i don't know there might be
  • 00:11:33 some people who know everything i'm not
  • 00:11:35 one of these
  • 00:11:36 so yeah with that happy learning and
  • 00:11:40 hope to see you in one of the next
  • 00:11:41 videos or one of the other videos we
  • 00:11:43 have here on the channel
  • 00:11:44 and yeah thanks for your support because
