Amazon (AWS) QuickSight Tutorial for Beginners

  • 00:00:01 welcome back max already gave you a
  • 00:00:04 great introduction into AWS so what AWS
  • 00:00:08 is how you can create your account and a
  • 00:00:10 lot more now I would like to take this
  • 00:00:12 chance and show you one specific service
  • 00:00:15 or tool of AWS and this tool is quick
  • 00:00:19 side this is the business intelligence
  • 00:00:21 or data analysis tool of AWS now if you
  • 00:00:24 have an AWS account right now you can
  • 00:00:27 simply go to this page right here and
  • 00:00:28 press until sign up for free you would
  • 00:00:31 then need to enter some information to
  • 00:00:33 arrive at this page right here here can
  • 00:00:36 simply select the standard edition of
  • 00:00:38 quick side which is totally enough for
  • 00:00:40 the purpose of this video and then you
  • 00:00:42 can also see that you have the first
  • 00:00:44 user well for free actually and that
  • 00:00:46 this user also gets one gigabyte of spy
  • 00:00:49 space spy system VD internal storage of
  • 00:00:52 quick side which allows you to well save
  • 00:00:54 your data to that now as always when
  • 00:00:58 working with AWS if you want to dive
  • 00:01:00 deeper and to play around more make sure
  • 00:01:03 to take a look at the pricing again you
  • 00:01:05 can find the quick set pricing options
  • 00:01:07 or details right here now then you can
  • 00:01:10 continue with your registration or with
  • 00:01:12 the creation of your account and then
  • 00:01:14 you arrive at this screen right here
  • 00:01:15 this might look slightly different in
  • 00:01:18 your case because you probably have some
  • 00:01:20 sample data right here I deleted those
  • 00:01:22 that's why they are not visible right
  • 00:01:23 there but the important thing is that
  • 00:01:26 right now we have our starting point and
  • 00:01:28 we can begin with our little project
  • 00:01:33 so we are in quick sight right now and
  • 00:01:36 what do we see right here well as I said
  • 00:01:38 not a lot in my case in your case
  • 00:01:41 probably some sample files so you can
  • 00:01:43 take a look at them if you want to but
  • 00:01:45 in our case we want to create a new
  • 00:01:48 analysis because in this screen you see
  • 00:01:50 all the analysis that you have any quick
  • 00:01:53 side the analysis is of course kind of
  • 00:01:55 the last step so the steps where you
  • 00:01:57 created all your visuals to display your
  • 00:01:59 data now we want to create our own
  • 00:02:01 analysis and to be able to visualize
  • 00:02:04 data we need data so if you now go to a
  • 00:02:07 new analysis right here then you might
  • 00:02:10 again see some sample data sets in your
  • 00:02:12 case in my case there is nothing so
  • 00:02:15 let's go to a new data set right here
  • 00:02:17 and right here we can see that we can
  • 00:02:19 connect quick site to a lot of different
  • 00:02:22 data sources
  • 00:02:23 before we continue one quick note if you
  • 00:02:26 want to find out more about this or
  • 00:02:28 about quick-set in general I would be
  • 00:02:30 really happy to welcome you in my udemy
  • 00:02:32 course in this course I will give you an
  • 00:02:34 overview of quick site and a lot of
  • 00:02:36 different functions it offers you can
  • 00:02:39 find the link to this course down there
  • 00:02:40 in the video description and a special
  • 00:02:42 discount price now enough of the
  • 00:02:44 commercial for now I think let's
  • 00:02:46 continue right here because we saw that
  • 00:02:49 we can connect quick set to a lot of
  • 00:02:51 data sources but we will simply use the
  • 00:02:53 upload of file option right here and
  • 00:02:55 well to upload a file we need a file
  • 00:02:59 first
  • 00:02:59 so next find one and you can simply use
  • 00:03:02 this source file that you can find on
  • 00:03:04 this page the link to that is of course
  • 00:03:06 also provided down there in the video
  • 00:03:08 description now you can see that this
  • 00:03:11 file refers to crime incidents in the
  • 00:03:14 City of Hartford well maybe a city not
  • 00:03:17 everybody knows but it's not about the
  • 00:03:19 city it's about the data so this is
  • 00:03:21 perfectly fine actually now if you
  • 00:03:23 scroll down right here to this section
  • 00:03:25 right there then we can simply press
  • 00:03:27 download at D CSV because we should use
  • 00:03:30 tthe file for this little project so
  • 00:03:32 press download we're here and now that
  • 00:03:34 the download is finished we can simply
  • 00:03:36 click on to upload a file right here now
  • 00:03:39 select the file which is downloaded and
  • 00:03:41 press open and again wait a few seconds
  • 00:03:45 because well still the file is quite big
  • 00:03:47 with 90 megabytes so this might take a
  • 00:03:49 few seconds depending on the internet
  • 00:03:51 connection that you have
  • 00:03:54 we finish the upload so we can now
  • 00:03:57 decide what we want to do next and we
  • 00:04:00 basically have two options we can press
  • 00:04:02 on to Next to continue there and by that
  • 00:04:05 start our analysis but actually that's
  • 00:04:08 not the best idea because as I said we
  • 00:04:10 have two different steps and quick side
  • 00:04:11 the analysis which is the last step
  • 00:04:13 where we visualize our data but before
  • 00:04:16 we analyze the data we should take a
  • 00:04:17 look at our data and by that create our
  • 00:04:19 data set based on the information we can
  • 00:04:22 see right here now to enter this data
  • 00:04:24 preparation section of fixed side we
  • 00:04:26 simply have to press edit settings and
  • 00:04:27 prepare data right here and now we are
  • 00:04:30 in the data preparation section of quick
  • 00:04:32 side as I said we have the preparation
  • 00:04:34 and the analysis in the preparation so
  • 00:04:37 right here we specify what information
  • 00:04:40 we really want to have to be imported
  • 00:04:42 into a quick side and by that to be
  • 00:04:45 available in the analysis later and if
  • 00:04:47 you look to the right right here we can
  • 00:04:50 see that we have a lot of columns and if
  • 00:04:52 we scroll down we have a lot of rows
  • 00:04:54 also but these are not all of the rows
  • 00:04:57 that you have in your source data and by
  • 00:05:00 that in your later data set this is just
  • 00:05:03 a preview that should give you an
  • 00:05:04 impression of the structure of the data
  • 00:05:07 that you have keep that in mind however
  • 00:05:09 if we scroll up again right here and
  • 00:05:13 maybe to the left to see the first
  • 00:05:15 column again oops and like this so this
  • 00:05:18 is fine well then we can see that we
  • 00:05:20 have some column names right here I can
  • 00:05:22 increase the width if you want you so
  • 00:05:24 you can creat the better and we have ski
  • 00:05:26 formats automatically being detected by
  • 00:05:29 quick side so if you click right here
  • 00:05:31 you can see that the second column is
  • 00:05:33 formatted as a date
  • 00:05:34 which is correct and if you click right
  • 00:05:36 there then you can see that the first
  • 00:05:39 column is formatted as an integer which
  • 00:05:41 is also totally fine and this is it
  • 00:05:44 actually I don't want to change the
  • 00:05:46 column names or the format's right here
  • 00:05:47 the only thing that I don't like is the
  • 00:05:50 amount of columns that we have because
  • 00:05:53 actually we want to create one single
  • 00:05:55 visual and for the purpose I only need
  • 00:05:58 two kinds of information we need the
  • 00:06:00 date which we have add here and we need
  • 00:06:03 the crime type as I said this data set
  • 00:06:05 is about crime statistics so we
  • 00:06:08 only need two columns actually well and
  • 00:06:10 we cannot delete or hide a column right
  • 00:06:12 here but if you look at the left part
  • 00:06:15 right now well you can see that case
  • 00:06:17 number is right here date is right there
  • 00:06:21 and so on and this is important because
  • 00:06:24 right here we have the different columns
  • 00:06:26 but if you want to work with that
  • 00:06:28 columns and quick side then these
  • 00:06:31 columns are referred to as fields right
  • 00:06:33 there so working with columns and quick
  • 00:06:36 side means working with fields well and
  • 00:06:39 if I look into this field segment right
  • 00:06:40 here then we can select none
  • 00:06:43 so unselect all of the fields basically
  • 00:06:45 then we can see if well nothing to
  • 00:06:48 display this is not good but now we can
  • 00:06:51 simply click onto this box right here
  • 00:06:52 next to date like this and now we see
  • 00:06:56 that we have our date column back which
  • 00:06:58 is really good but we also need a second
  • 00:07:01 column with the well crime type actually
  • 00:07:03 and this could be this one here
  • 00:07:05 so category so let's take that also oops
  • 00:07:08 this didn't work at the drug so it's
  • 00:07:10 grade is fine well and now we see that
  • 00:07:14 we only have these two columns now and
  • 00:07:16 this is important because unselecting
  • 00:07:19 the columns or the views right here
  • 00:07:20 means that the remaining fields will not
  • 00:07:23 be imported into the analysis and by
  • 00:07:26 that not be available right there so
  • 00:07:28 keep that in mind
  • 00:07:29 however this looks pretty good right now
  • 00:07:31 we have the date topic right here and
  • 00:07:34 don't worry about the formatting right
  • 00:07:35 there the important thing is that this
  • 00:07:37 symbol indicates that this is recognized
  • 00:07:40 as a date and we can take care about the
  • 00:07:42 way this state will be displayed in the
  • 00:07:44 analysis well in the analysis itself so
  • 00:07:47 no need to change that right here well
  • 00:07:49 and as we are already we can simply
  • 00:07:51 press on to save and visualize right
  • 00:07:53 there now it again takes a few seconds
  • 00:07:58 because as you can see now the data is
  • 00:08:01 imported into spice you remember back
  • 00:08:04 then this one gigabyte spice base you
  • 00:08:07 got for free as the first user of quick
  • 00:08:09 side and we can also see if that our
  • 00:08:13 import is complete which is nice but the
  • 00:08:15 main thing is that zero rows per script
  • 00:08:18 this means our entire data set that we
  • 00:08:21 now created
  • 00:08:22 was imported into this analysis section
  • 00:08:24 of quick side or into spice actually now
  • 00:08:28 we can close this window actually right
  • 00:08:29 here and well now we want to create as
  • 00:08:32 visual and you can select the different
  • 00:08:35 visual types in quick size down here I
  • 00:08:37 will simply select the heat map
  • 00:08:39 so only one visual so after clicking
  • 00:08:42 right here on to this heat map you can
  • 00:08:44 see that the field worlds are displayed
  • 00:08:46 this is basically the area where you can
  • 00:08:49 define what type of information should
  • 00:08:51 be displayed in this chart and if you
  • 00:08:54 look at these field wells well you can
  • 00:08:57 see that we have dimensions so these
  • 00:08:58 blue fields right here you can find the
  • 00:09:00 right there our datum category and this
  • 00:09:03 green fields the measures which well you
  • 00:09:05 would normally find right there but we
  • 00:09:07 didn't include any measure into our data
  • 00:09:09 set so we cannot select any measure
  • 00:09:11 right here in the analysis now what's
  • 00:09:13 the difference well basically as I
  • 00:09:15 mention is a category this could be a
  • 00:09:18 product type for example or in our case
  • 00:09:20 the category of a specific crime and
  • 00:09:22 measure then is the value behind that so
  • 00:09:26 something that can be aggregated for
  • 00:09:27 example this could be the revenue now we
  • 00:09:30 don't have any measuring here but this
  • 00:09:33 is not a problem because if we now
  • 00:09:34 simply take the category and drag it to
  • 00:09:36 the rows right here and then take the
  • 00:09:39 date and drag it to the columns area
  • 00:09:41 right there and if we now close these
  • 00:09:44 field wells maybe well then we can see
  • 00:09:47 that the values are displayed based on
  • 00:09:50 the count this means simply counts how
  • 00:09:53 many times a specific crime took place
  • 00:09:55 on a specific date and this is the
  • 00:09:58 reason why you normally need these
  • 00:09:59 measures in quick side but for our
  • 00:10:01 purposes the account options is totally
  • 00:10:04 fine so we have this heat map right now
  • 00:10:07 and this heat map now indicates well the
  • 00:10:10 dark of the color is the more crimes
  • 00:10:12 happened at that day but there are two
  • 00:10:16 problems that I can see right here the
  • 00:10:18 first thing is that well I think we have
  • 00:10:20 way too many dates in here so we should
  • 00:10:22 limit that maybe and additionally well
  • 00:10:25 we cannot read what type of crime we
  • 00:10:27 have right there additionally we have
  • 00:10:29 way too much crime types right here so
  • 00:10:32 we should apply some filters to that
  • 00:10:34 maybe well
  • 00:10:36 you can do this easily in quick side by
  • 00:10:37 simply going to refer the area right
  • 00:10:39 there now press on to create one right
  • 00:10:43 here and now you can select the filter
  • 00:10:45 type or what you want to base the
  • 00:10:47 children we said you want to filter the
  • 00:10:49 date first
  • 00:10:50 so we click on to date right here now we
  • 00:10:54 click on to this between none option
  • 00:10:56 right there well and now we can simply
  • 00:10:58 define a time range so we click on to
  • 00:11:01 the start date and let's say we start in
  • 00:11:03 I don't know January maybe 2012 for
  • 00:11:08 example and the 1st of January and it
  • 00:11:11 should end in December 2014 and the 31st
  • 00:11:16 like this if we now press apply right
  • 00:11:20 here well then we see that our visual
  • 00:11:23 changed immediately it looks better now
  • 00:11:26 but still as I said I think we have way
  • 00:11:29 too much categories so crime categories
  • 00:11:32 in here let's maybe select just some of
  • 00:11:34 the darker ones so maybe this one here
  • 00:11:37 oops
  • 00:11:38 this is larceny then maybe that one D
  • 00:11:42 crimes against the public and the
  • 00:11:45 property damage accident so we now know
  • 00:11:48 that you want to have these three
  • 00:11:49 categories only so we can apply another
  • 00:11:52 filter by simply pressing right here and
  • 00:11:54 now click on to this symbol right the
  • 00:11:56 arrow to this filter symbol actually
  • 00:11:58 like that and now we won't filter for
  • 00:12:01 the date but for the category right here
  • 00:12:03 now again click onto this message right
  • 00:12:06 there and now we can find a filter list
  • 00:12:10 down here now let's first unselect all
  • 00:12:13 because we only want to select three of
  • 00:12:14 them so let's press here and now select
  • 00:12:19 larceny and what else do you say crimes
  • 00:12:24 against the public and I think the last
  • 00:12:27 one was property damage accident this
  • 00:12:30 one right here and if we now go back to
  • 00:12:34 our visualizing area right here well
  • 00:12:37 then we see that our heat map looks kind
  • 00:12:39 of interesting right now because as you
  • 00:12:41 can see we have an indication that you
  • 00:12:43 probably damage accident in 2014 well
  • 00:12:46 this happened a lot where as crimes
  • 00:12:48 against the public for example
  • 00:12:49 decreased in 2014 so we are almost done
  • 00:12:53 with that visual but I want to show you
  • 00:12:55 one last thing because if you now go to
  • 00:12:58 that field Wells again by clicking onto
  • 00:13:00 this arrow right here and now change the
  • 00:13:02 date by clicking right here so the
  • 00:13:04 aggregation of the date actually from a
  • 00:13:06 year to a month like this and now
  • 00:13:11 minimize the field wells well then you
  • 00:13:14 can see that you get a more detailed
  • 00:13:16 view so we now have a monthly overview
  • 00:13:19 of these three crime categories that we
  • 00:13:21 selected and for example we can see now
  • 00:13:24 that property damage accidents happened
  • 00:13:27 a lot in February 2014 and this is it
  • 00:13:30 actually I only wanted to show you how
  • 00:13:32 easy it is to import data to quick side
  • 00:13:35 to then create your own data set and to
  • 00:13:38 then visualize the data as I said before
  • 00:13:41 if you want to dive deeper into quick
  • 00:13:43 side I would be really happy to see you
  • 00:13:45 in Miami course otherwise I can only say
  • 00:13:48 thanks for watching and see you in the
  • 00:13:51 next videos bye-bye
