Behind the Scenes | Our Equipment

  • 00:00:00 welcome to this video if you look at the
  • 00:00:03 screen right now you can see that
  • 00:00:04 something is different I'm not sitting
  • 00:00:06 in front of the green screen
  • 00:00:07 I'm just sitting here in the middle of
  • 00:00:08 the room actually and the reason for
  • 00:00:10 that is that in this video I would like
  • 00:00:13 to show you our equipment because so
  • 00:00:15 much you guys wrote us that you want to
  • 00:00:17 know more about that so we want to show
  • 00:00:18 you which camera we use which microphone
  • 00:00:20 and some more stuff and before we start
  • 00:00:23 you can also find some links to their
  • 00:00:25 equipment down there in the video
  • 00:00:26 description but if you click onto that
  • 00:00:28 these are not affiliate links so we
  • 00:00:30 don't earn any money if you click onto
  • 00:00:32 these we just want to make sure that if
  • 00:00:33 you want to buy some of our equipment
  • 00:00:35 but you can do that and with that let's
  • 00:00:37 start right now
  • 00:00:41 so let's start a little Home Shopping
  • 00:00:43 Channel right here with the first thing
  • 00:00:45 because in our videos you can see our
  • 00:00:48 places well in the sea the places we
  • 00:00:50 need a camera and for this purpose we
  • 00:00:52 use this one
  • 00:00:53 that's the Sony camcorder it's called
  • 00:00:55 HDR DX 6 to 5 as I said you can find a
  • 00:01:00 link to that little camera in the
  • 00:01:02 description
  • 00:01:03 the important thing is actually this we
  • 00:01:04 don't use any fancy settings on that we
  • 00:01:07 simply use 1080p and record in 50 frames
  • 00:01:10 per second we render the video stand
  • 00:01:12 later in 720p and 25 frames per second
  • 00:01:16 audio we are experimenting with that and
  • 00:01:17 we might also produce computers in 1080p
  • 00:01:20 in the future but as I said we try to
  • 00:01:22 find the right compromise between the
  • 00:01:24 qualities and how good we can handle the
  • 00:01:26 data and actually the file size the
  • 00:01:28 camera is about to think about $500 for
  • 00:01:32 example so not really cheap but
  • 00:01:34 considering what it can do I think it's
  • 00:01:36 good value for the money actually well
  • 00:01:38 that's the camera but as you can imagine
  • 00:01:40 VMs sitting like this and film ourselves
  • 00:01:43 because in either end and for this
  • 00:01:45 purpose you need two things the first
  • 00:01:47 thing is we need a tripod and of course
  • 00:01:50 Android prepared so I got this chair and
  • 00:01:52 on this chair we can see this tripod
  • 00:01:55 right now that's a common Alpha mm
  • 00:01:59 another thing it's a release basic fiber
  • 00:02:01 actually but totally sufficient for our
  • 00:02:03 purposes and well you know the
  • 00:02:06 subscribers but we have to mount the
  • 00:02:08 camera on Chris and for the purpose you
  • 00:02:10 have this mount rings like this comes
  • 00:02:12 with the try so actually and the only
  • 00:02:15 thing is to do is you have to well kind
  • 00:02:17 of put that thing on to the camera like
  • 00:02:22 that welcome then you can simply plug it
  • 00:02:25 right here with like this yes and then
  • 00:02:30 you need to serve on with the camera and
  • 00:02:32 make sure that well the place is
  • 00:02:33 correctly in the camera and with that
  • 00:02:36 they actually has our of tapes now at
  • 00:02:37 least at one step to it and actually the
  • 00:02:41 audio because this camcorder has an
  • 00:02:44 integrated microphone to be honest
  • 00:02:46 quality is not the best one and if you
  • 00:02:48 can hopefully here in the videos we have
  • 00:02:50 a relatively good audio quality painting
  • 00:02:52 in oil and
  • 00:02:53 the reason for that is that you're not
  • 00:02:55 using this audio but they're using an
  • 00:02:58 external microphone and which one do we
  • 00:03:00 use well we use this one
  • 00:03:03 that's a roadie role processor again
  • 00:03:05 check the description for the exact
  • 00:03:07 details about that this is great things
  • 00:03:10 as you can please come to this beautiful
  • 00:03:11 back by the way really awesome and the
  • 00:03:14 amazing thing is that well it's simply
  • 00:03:16 work because in the beginning of the
  • 00:03:19 channel and actually until two months
  • 00:03:20 ago
  • 00:03:20 Max and I we experiment sit around with
  • 00:03:23 microphones and we found in the end that
  • 00:03:25 this is actually the best microphone
  • 00:03:28 that you can get for your money it's
  • 00:03:29 about $200
  • 00:03:31 so not really achieve but ever set is
  • 00:03:33 really worth it because I think for you
  • 00:03:35 guys it's really important that you
  • 00:03:37 understand what we're saying
  • 00:03:38 so a good microphone is important now
  • 00:03:41 this microphone is nice but as you can
  • 00:03:43 see right here we don't have anything to
  • 00:03:45 adjust in it and that's an important
  • 00:03:48 thing because to use the slide perform
  • 00:03:50 you needs and other things you need a
  • 00:03:51 mixer we also got something at that of
  • 00:03:53 course and let me fetch that right here
  • 00:03:55 that the mixer that we used
  • 00:03:58 hope you can see it is a simple bearing
  • 00:04:02 our low the expect I'm Phoenix 302 USB
  • 00:04:07 mixer as you can see we are not really
  • 00:04:08 into details about this technique to be
  • 00:04:10 honest because the important thing for
  • 00:04:12 us is that is basically work and that's
  • 00:04:14 what it should do so we also didn't play
  • 00:04:16 around lots of settings you can play
  • 00:04:18 around with the game and the phones
  • 00:04:20 maybe but that's the main thing with
  • 00:04:21 this and if you use it on your own body
  • 00:04:24 has to find the right settings for your
  • 00:04:26 room or depending on the size of the
  • 00:04:28 room you have to play around with that
  • 00:04:29 but the only thing if you do is actually
  • 00:04:31 you meet that mixer which you can plug
  • 00:04:33 into your computer them and reset you're
  • 00:04:35 almost done regarding these audio
  • 00:04:37 problems de list that again I'm holding
  • 00:04:40 a microphone and well that's not kind of
  • 00:04:42 a set of views so we need another things
  • 00:04:44 let me test it quickly back in business
  • 00:04:47 but this time with my son again this is
  • 00:04:50 a really basic mics and actually because
  • 00:04:52 the only thing I have to do it well it
  • 00:04:53 has to kind of hold the mic and to do
  • 00:04:56 this you've got the mic and you've got
  • 00:04:58 this little thing right here and then
  • 00:04:59 you can simply adjust this like that
  • 00:05:02 oops maybe put it down a little bit
  • 00:05:04 hitting this this maybe whoops like that
  • 00:05:09 and if you then slap your mixer so this
  • 00:05:12 cable you get right here into the
  • 00:05:15 microphone like that and then as a set
  • 00:05:17 connect some mixer to the computer well
  • 00:05:19 then you're ready to go there is one
  • 00:05:21 important thing missing and that's the
  • 00:05:23 green screen because as you see in the
  • 00:05:25 videos we have our faces in our audio
  • 00:05:28 but the main thing you see is with us
  • 00:05:30 it's the screen we do on a computer and
  • 00:05:32 for the purpose we need a green screen
  • 00:05:34 behind us your ever white bowl but
  • 00:05:37 normally I got the screen screen and I
  • 00:05:39 will not build up the green screen right
  • 00:05:40 now because to be honest it's quite big
  • 00:05:42 and it takes a minute so this is the
  • 00:05:45 greens can be used actually so check it
  • 00:05:47 over here and as you can see it comes
  • 00:05:49 with a lot of stuff yes the green screen
  • 00:05:50 and all the stands that you need to
  • 00:05:53 build up in your room and you also got
  • 00:05:56 the labs which are really important
  • 00:05:58 because you need to make sure that the
  • 00:06:00 illumination of the green screen
  • 00:06:01 is as well equal as possible in each
  • 00:06:04 part of the green screen because
  • 00:06:06 otherwise it becomes really hard to get
  • 00:06:08 rid of the green screen later on in the
  • 00:06:10 video editing so to talk about the
  • 00:06:12 glands let me just show you how this can
  • 00:06:14 look like and how they work so the mic
  • 00:06:16 is gone but now we got this little thing
  • 00:06:18 right here that's all included in that
  • 00:06:21 green screen package data to show you
  • 00:06:23 and we have set stand of course for the
  • 00:06:25 land and we have that well thing to
  • 00:06:27 mount the lamp in and students now to
  • 00:06:30 choice whiskers so all we got things and
  • 00:06:33 now we got these lamps so these are
  • 00:06:35 really big lamp actually and you can pin
  • 00:06:38 all the way to this thing like that you
  • 00:06:42 can see that well not really good let me
  • 00:06:44 maybe make this smaller I don't know
  • 00:06:52 it's not really I hope you can see it so
  • 00:06:54 here we go the lab it down a little bit
  • 00:06:59 like that right so you think these plus
  • 00:07:02 the lamb but that's what all they need
  • 00:07:04 you also need something else and this
  • 00:07:07 something else is this thing an umbrella
  • 00:07:10 and no worries different to raining in
  • 00:07:12 here but you need that because
  • 00:07:14 just if you look at it it's the lack and
  • 00:07:15 rely on the outside but inside it has a
  • 00:07:18 reflecting thing right here and that
  • 00:07:21 allows you to kind of reflect the life
  • 00:07:23 and by that get the best illumination of
  • 00:07:26 the crude elimination of the green
  • 00:07:27 screen as I said before to make sure the
  • 00:07:29 illumination of the green screen is kind
  • 00:07:30 of equal in each spot of the green
  • 00:07:32 screen now he has two different
  • 00:07:34 umbrellas that come with the package the
  • 00:07:36 black one and it's the white one like
  • 00:07:40 that now what's the difference well as I
  • 00:07:42 said the black one is black on the
  • 00:07:44 outside and hazard with selecting things
  • 00:07:47 on the inside this one is white inside
  • 00:07:50 and outside so difference is that if you
  • 00:07:52 use the right one just looking like this
  • 00:07:54 we're not crashing a lot like here let
  • 00:07:57 me so you could know it like that and
  • 00:08:01 work hard to see is not a lot of space
  • 00:08:04 in here like that so you would turn it
  • 00:08:06 into your direction right so this is not
  • 00:08:09 that close of course but basically
  • 00:08:10 that's the idea behind it so you guys
  • 00:08:12 are doing screen behind you then you've
  • 00:08:13 got the length one or left one to the
  • 00:08:15 right and well then you turn the light
  • 00:08:17 on which is something I'm doing a few
  • 00:08:19 seconds but before we do that I just
  • 00:08:21 unmount that umbrella like that because
  • 00:08:26 we don't use this white one because you
  • 00:08:28 also play around with it and we found
  • 00:08:30 out that from a lighting perspective at
  • 00:08:32 least in our case this is like much
  • 00:08:34 better and as I said if you set one then
  • 00:08:38 you simply have to put it right here you
  • 00:08:41 cannot see me right now so you use like
  • 00:08:48 that and maybe an important thing that's
  • 00:08:50 not the spot that normally record my
  • 00:08:51 videos so don't worry we had a little
  • 00:08:53 bit more space when we record the video
  • 00:08:54 but that's at work as you can see I'm
  • 00:08:57 now turning it around because it has to
  • 00:08:58 reflect elimination well and as I want
  • 00:09:01 to make sure to get some insights if
  • 00:09:03 you'd enter an orbital life then it
  • 00:09:05 looks like this and this is really well
  • 00:09:08 white actually and now you can imagine
  • 00:09:10 how this basicly works you have one to
  • 00:09:12 the right one to left the green screen
  • 00:09:14 behind you then the camera and the
  • 00:09:16 microphone and that actually is let me
  • 00:09:18 just switch that off because it's
  • 00:09:20 beautiful but it's kind of not the
  • 00:09:23 atmosphere people like to have all day
  • 00:09:26 with that we are actually done with our
  • 00:09:27 equipment to basically the hardware that
  • 00:09:29 we need but there is one more thing that
  • 00:09:31 need actually radio and this one more
  • 00:09:33 thing is of course the software that we
  • 00:09:35 use to record our screens because again
  • 00:09:38 it's nice to hear oh it might be nice to
  • 00:09:40 see us I don't know but the most
  • 00:09:43 important thing is that you see what
  • 00:09:44 we're doing on the screen and for the
  • 00:09:46 Purple's we use both two different
  • 00:09:48 software's on the Mac's we use
  • 00:09:50 ScreenFlow ScreenFlow is not for free
  • 00:09:52 you have to pay for it I think an annual
  • 00:09:55 subscription is about 130 US dollars and
  • 00:09:57 on the windows computer we use OBS it's
  • 00:10:01 open broadcast software open broadcast
  • 00:10:03 software and this also works quite nice
  • 00:10:06 to be honest next and I we prefer
  • 00:10:08 ScreenFlow and be more record on the Mac
  • 00:10:10 but the Nell videos we know to protect
  • 00:10:12 obvious all the work perfectly and that
  • 00:10:15 it actually that's what we used for our
  • 00:10:18 recordings and if you have any question
  • 00:10:20 or something like that just hold them in
  • 00:10:22 the comments and also we certainly like
  • 00:10:24 this kind of performance if you want to
  • 00:10:26 have more insights into the channel how
  • 00:10:28 it work what we do and how we do it so
  • 00:10:30 yes I hope you kind of enjoyed this
  • 00:10:32 different video and sorry if it's not as
  • 00:10:34 well structured as the lore videos
  • 00:10:36 because it's kind of well a different
  • 00:10:38 style of video but nevertheless I hope
  • 00:10:40 you enjoyed it and well as always I can
  • 00:10:43 only say thanks a lot for watching and
  • 00:10:44 hope to see you in the next videos bye
