- 00:00:00 everyone welcome back in this video we
- 00:00:03 are going to create our very first basic
- 00:00:05 object in Adobe Illustrator I'm going to
- 00:00:08 build this speech bubble here and it is
- 00:00:13 certainly not the most complicated and
- 00:00:15 fancy object author in the world but is
- 00:00:17 very nice to demonstrate the basic tools
- 00:00:21 we have were how we approach creating
- 00:00:24 such shapes because in the end you will
- 00:00:26 recognize all shapes no matter how
- 00:00:29 complicated they look are most of the
- 00:00:31 time only composed of very simple shapes
- 00:00:34 and then cleverly combined and so on so
- 00:00:38 let's start with speech bubble here
- 00:00:41 let's just get this year out of the way
- 00:00:43 and now let's think about this object
- 00:00:47 here how could we compose it now this is
- 00:00:50 one object but in the end this looks
- 00:00:52 like a rectangle here i'd say so we
- 00:00:55 should be able to start for rectangle
- 00:00:58 for this part here we probably need to
- 00:01:00 pen tool we'll see how this voice and
- 00:01:03 these slides here well that are just
- 00:01:06 lines so let me start by dragging out a
- 00:01:10 rectangle i selected a rectangle tool by
- 00:01:13 pressing m and now I could evil directly
- 00:01:15 select a rounded rectangle tool if you
- 00:01:18 have an older version of illustrator you
- 00:01:19 do have to if you have a new word you
- 00:01:22 can create or use the normal rectangle
- 00:01:24 tool just drag out a rectangle here and
- 00:01:27 then you got these dots here in each
- 00:01:30 corner if you click one of the these
- 00:01:32 dots here and then you drag you create
- 00:01:36 around the corner as you can see now
- 00:01:40 this corner is surrounded now if you
- 00:01:42 have the whole object selected not
- 00:01:45 clicked on an individual bullet here and
- 00:01:48 then you drag you will route all corners
- 00:01:52 equally so just bring them in until it
- 00:01:54 looks nice yeah that should do the trick
- 00:01:56 so now we can already see the similarity
- 00:01:59 between this shape here and the shape
- 00:02:02 let's next work on this part here at the
- 00:02:06 bottom this well is this arrow pointing
- 00:02:09 to whoever is saying something for
- 00:02:11 district will use
- 00:02:12 hantu it's a breast– p or click on the
- 00:02:14 pen tool icon here so now we want to
- 00:02:16 click here on this anchor smart guides
- 00:02:18 are guiding us click let's say till till
- 00:02:24 around here then create a nice little
- 00:02:27 curve click on this anger go up there
- 00:02:33 then click on this intersect smart guy
- 00:02:37 here and hold so that we can practice in
- 00:02:40 a little bit and well now we're just
- 00:02:44 able to complete the shape so now we get
- 00:02:47 the shape but yeah we got to shift you
- 00:02:50 want to have one therefore looks like
- 00:02:53 both shapes just click on both and down
- 00:02:56 here in the Pathfinder we got the
- 00:02:58 possibility to well add shapes I just
- 00:03:02 brought it up so here we can unite two
- 00:03:04 shapes I just click this now you can see
- 00:03:06 we got to one single shame so this Luxur
- 00:03:09 good but we get this little ass here now
- 00:03:12 you might like this way and I think you
- 00:03:14 could use a speech bubble like this it's
- 00:03:15 perfectly fine but if you want to get
- 00:03:17 rid of it and have this smooth
- 00:03:19 transition we have to manipulate this
- 00:03:22 anchor point here we can do this by
- 00:03:25 using the direct selection tool which is
- 00:03:27 this second error here on the left first
- 00:03:30 ones to selection who enters the direct
- 00:03:32 selection tool can also press a on the
- 00:03:34 keyboard to selected what's the
- 00:03:35 difference the selection tool allows us
- 00:03:38 to select complete shapes like if i
- 00:03:41 click on here I get the whole shape if I
- 00:03:43 have the direct selection tool enabled I
- 00:03:46 can also select chips but I can also
- 00:03:48 select individual anger points I want to
- 00:03:50 edit so in this case this anchor point
- 00:03:53 here I might just drag it out of it but
- 00:03:56 you see the problem persists this is
- 00:03:59 because this is a corner anchor point
- 00:04:01 because two kinds of anger points here
- 00:04:04 we got smooth ones those are these are
- 00:04:07 the ones which have the these handles
- 00:04:09 here ray can change the curve and we got
- 00:04:12 the anchor or the corner ones where you
- 00:04:15 will just make a hard corner if you want
- 00:04:18 to change this weekend
- 00:04:19 here in the top by clicking converts
- 00:04:21 like the angle points to smooth and now
- 00:04:23 I can see how we get this much smoother
- 00:04:27 curve here now we can again click on
- 00:04:30 this anchor and maybe bring it don't
- 00:04:33 like this change the curve a bit and
- 00:04:36 yeah I'd say does looks good i'll leave
- 00:04:39 it like this so we got this all working
- 00:04:41 the last thing i have to do is I have to
- 00:04:43 insert these lines here and this is very
- 00:04:46 simple I could just create rectangles
- 00:04:48 and fold them all lag but i will use the
- 00:04:51 line segment tool here and a way to use
- 00:04:54 tools just to click somewhere hold and
- 00:04:56 drag out the line you can watch shift to
- 00:04:59 make sure it's a straight line so once i
- 00:05:02 have a line i want you to placate it two
- 00:05:03 times and i got several options to do
- 00:05:06 this one is to just click on this line
- 00:05:10 drag it and hold alt while doing so
- 00:05:13 let's recreate a copy once and release
- 00:05:15 both keys i can also hold shift to make
- 00:05:18 sure that I stay in line and I don't
- 00:05:20 well drag it up into the right or left
- 00:05:22 so once i get this i can press ctrl or
- 00:05:26 command D to duplicate it and
- 00:05:28 illustrator will automatically duplicate
- 00:05:30 it such that it will keep the distance
- 00:05:32 to the last object so it's a very
- 00:05:34 intelligent duplication here and this
- 00:05:37 almost looks good but I want to align
- 00:05:40 them a little bit different so I want to
- 00:05:44 drag this down without holding old now
- 00:05:46 just holding shift to the bottom and
- 00:05:49 then I will shift and then I press the
- 00:05:51 up key one two three four times and this
- 00:05:55 will just move it in well bigger pixel
- 00:05:59 blocks I guess it's 20 pixels or so at a
- 00:06:01 time sailor that test yeah it gives us a
- 00:06:04 fixed dimension in which it will move
- 00:06:07 this element and I will do the same for
- 00:06:12 the top unit also four times and now I'm
- 00:06:14 sure that the top and bottom line are
- 00:06:17 equally distant too while the borders of
- 00:06:20 the shape now this ship in the middle
- 00:06:22 between these lines and the easiest way
- 00:06:25 to do so as select all lines by loading
- 00:06:27 shift by clicking on all of them and
- 00:06:29 then just hit this button here we're
- 00:06:32 we'll distribute century and this will
- 00:06:35 just well do what it said what the name
- 00:06:37 implies distribute them equally the last
- 00:06:40 fingers I'll again select them all and I
- 00:06:43 will just increase the stroke and now
- 00:06:44 i'm doing this here to write i could
- 00:06:46 also do it here at the top to let's say
- 00:06:49 four pixels may be free yeah no I
- 00:06:53 deleted them maybe free pixels yeah
- 00:06:56 looks better the very last thing is I
- 00:06:59 want to make sure that these are not
- 00:07:01 only in the center vertically but also
- 00:07:04 horizontally so in order to our ensure
- 00:07:07 this I will select them all then hit
- 00:07:09 command or ctrl G to group them now it's
- 00:07:12 one group if I click on one I select
- 00:07:14 them all I can ungroup them of course 2
- 00:07:16 and then I will select my shape here but
- 00:07:20 also clicking on it with shape-shift
- 00:07:22 selected some I i have my lines here as
- 00:07:25 well as the overall shape selected and
- 00:07:28 now if I click again on the overall
- 00:07:30 shape without having anything else
- 00:07:32 selected no shift north nothing just
- 00:07:35 left clicking you will see that it gets
- 00:07:38 this thick blue border so now its key
- 00:07:41 object and this means that not all
- 00:07:43 alignment options i take will be
- 00:07:46 relative to this object so if I now say
- 00:07:49 center horizontal you see these lines
- 00:07:53 move now in the middle of this if I
- 00:07:56 would do advise where is ur well now
- 00:07:59 let's try this the overall shape would
- 00:08:05 move to the left now the result is
- 00:08:07 obviously the same but just so that you
- 00:08:08 know that you can choose which elements
- 00:08:11 should be moved and which should be the
- 00:08:13 one acting as a key so now the speech
- 00:08:18 bubble is done and what it does not look
- 00:08:21 exactly the same it looks pretty fine
- 00:08:23 and say and I will see you in the next
- 00:08:25 videos bye
